His Helmet...
Michael explains how his helmet's paint scheme came about:
"From the area of the visor you see the traditional German
black-red-gold. I chose the colours years ago with a friend
of mine and I changed it only slightly, mostly to include sponsor
decals. The blue circle with the white stars on the top was
his idea. After joining Ferrari I added the prancing horse on
the back. "
Since the European GP in 2000, Michael has raced with a modified
helmet design. The blue circle on the top in now painted light
red. The white Marlboro stripe around the top is also now red.
The change was made to prevent confusion between himself and
Barrichello, whose design was confusingly similar.

Michael Schumacher entered only one race for Jordan - his F1
debut at Spa Francorchamps in 1991. He qualified 7th but in
the race the clutch burnt out and he didn't make it off the
grid. He stood in for Bertrand Gachot, who had been jailed in
London just before the GP for an assault with CS gas on a taxi
driver!
Michael is Ferrari's most successful driver ever, ahead of
Niki Lauda.
Michael Schumacher recently won the French GP for the 8th time,
yet another record! Slowly Michael Schumacher closes in on Alonso
and may be in with a chance of regaining the World title.
So the rumour is now confirmed, Michael Schumacher is to retire
after the 2006 season. Having announced this over the team radio
at the slow down lap at Monza, the Italian Grand Prix, broadcast
over the tannoy to all the fans around the circuit.
The advantage may still be with Ferrari in the 2007 season
when all teams will be using Bridgestone tyres, giving Ferrari
an advantage as they already run these.
Michael Schumacher is without a doubt the best and most successful
driver of our time, having won more GP's than Senna and Prost
combined. A truly great achievement.
Recently he announced his retirement from racing
after the 2006 season. This was done over the on board radio
at the end of the race, being broadcast over the tannoy to
the waiting crowds. Michael has recently started a real comeback
in the championship and it was beginning to seem incredible
that he will be retiring at yet another high in his career.
It appears that Michael Schumacher is indeed
retiring at the end of the 2006 season, although it was a close
run finish to the season and there was a chance that he was
going to regain his world championship title at one point,
but it was not to be and he finished the season in second place
to Alonso. The general opinion is that he will be taking some
time away from racing before returning in a managerial role.
He has been the driving force behind the Ferrari team, building
a team strictly around himself and his needs. This is definitely
a skill he will be able to take with him to another team to
build this type of resource around any other driver.
Michael was recently quoted as saying that
he believed that due to the pace of development in Formula
One, no driver could return to the sport after leaving as they
would almost instantly lose the edge in such a fast changing
sport. He was, it seems, trying to tell everyone one that no
matter what happens in his life next, he will not be returning
to the sport, or at least not as a driver!
