Peter Ratcliffe with Stirling at Le Mans 2010
Peter Ratcliffe established LEGENDS IN TIME in 1988.

Peter Ratcliffe first met Sir Stirling Moss way back in 1959 at Goodwood with his Father John who was a keen motor racing enthusiast. Peter queued up with others to get Stirling's autograph to add to his collection. Stirling was so charming that he immediately became Peter's boyhood hero. 30 years later in 1989 Peter approached Stirling to sign prints for his newly founded company Legends In Time. The two of them began a close friendship lasting over 30 years. Peter and Stirling holidayed together in Florida on many occasions, also in Palma Majorca where Peter's yacht was named Number Seven which Stirling christened. Their relationship grew closer and for the next 20 years they would talk on the phone every week and Peter would visit Stirling in London very regularly. In 2001 Stirling and Peter shared an E-Type lightweight in the 50th Anniversary race for E-Types at Donnington...ironically they would finish 7th in the car carrying Stirling's number 7.

Peter being a watch enthusiast had always had a dream to design a watch himself. As Stirling's 80th birthday approached Peter discussed with Stirling about designing a watch to celebrate his special day. Peter set about traveling Europe to find a company to bring his dream into reality. After 16 months the first Legends In Time watch arrived in time to celebrate Stirling's 80th and was given the title of The Moss 80. The Moss 80 was to become the first watch ever produced with a genuine hand signed signature on the dial. Just 80 watches were produced and were displayed at Goodwood on his birthday...more than half of the collection sold in just 3 days.

During the coming 3 years Peter also designed and manufactured a further 5 watches to commemorate Stirling's finest victories. In 2014 Peter shelved the projects largely due to Stirling's ailing health and inability to sign the dials. For the next few years Peter visited Stirling's Mayfair home on a weekly basis to visit and shave his dear friend and he says. 'It was the only way I could help him...he was always a man who wished to present himself looking 'Prim and Proper, this was the only way I could comfort my boyhood hero and much loved friend. The wonderful man passed in April 2020 and is dearly missed.

Peter would regularly say to Stirling. 'There is only one man who could play the role of Stirling Moss...and what a fine job you have done'. With the limited remaining signed dials Peter has now re-launched the Moss collection of watches which are now available. Now is the opportunity to own a fine Swiss made Chronometer watch hand signed by the Icon himself with a section of his last ever race suit ( Le Mans 2011) inserted to the rear. Peter says. 'I would never have dreamt that my boyhood hero would become a close friend and feel blessed that it happened'. I was with him on the day of his passing, I miss him every day and especially the sound of his voice and humour. A true one-off and a wonderful man'.

RIP Stirling.
